the aftershock project
Project by Jennifer Soto
The Aftershock Project is a community driven Initiative, aimed to help rebuild and reshape Communities affected by a natural disaster. Through a communal quilting event, The aftershock project helps foster connection, resilience, and hope.
The aftershock project story
Experiencing the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene on my hometown in the foothills of North Carolina was both shocking and isolating. The hurricane struck an area where such disasters were rare and unexpected, leaving the town and its neighbors unprepared and in ruins.
While the news cycle quickly moves on, those affected are left to navigate the aftermath, often feeling forgotten by the rest of the world. That sense of isolation made me think about how to restore hope, comfort, and security to hurricane-ravaged communities.
This became the driving force behind The Aftershock Project. With natural disasters becoming increasingly common, I wanted to create an organization dedicated to rebuilding communities in a way that is impactful, cost-effective, and sustainable.
